When this happens unplugging the print server and plugging the ac back it makes it work just fine. The Mac says all is good, but no output, while the windows machines are able to print fine.
However, in practice it is a bit annoying. First off, setup on windows vista/7 is simple.
As advertised the print server sounded great. Snow Leopard has moved to a different print set up and I could not associate the print drivers with the print server.
The most difficult part is getting the correct print drivers if the printer wasn't already installed on the machine you wish to print from. I could not get it to work with the latest version of MacOS X, snow leopard.
Finally, the thing just hangs sometimes. But this is required far too ofter.
Simple setup, and worked without a hitch with my canon ip4300.Had a mixed environment of windows 7 and XP computers printing in less than 15 min.
Haven't used it yet have in-home computer service. Some believe they have wireless printers and they don't. This will make it available with any printer.
I did that, and now they both work great on several WinXP and Win7 computers of varying ages. This print server works great for me. Previous to using this, I had a really old but reliable parallel port network print server by Hawking Technologies on my deskjet that I've been using for 5 years, but that never showed up on the Win7 network detection, so I figured I couldn't use it. Added bonus for me, since now I could install both printers for use on all my various computers. Only oddness in installation that I saw was on some machines the usb printer was reset to "offline", so you need to right click on that printer and set it to "work online" before you can use it. No mention of current driver support for that printer server on Hawking website.
That is the main reason I am writing this review. I wanted to add a laser jet printer to Win 7, and share it on my network easily. It is rare to have a driver work better than you expected. However, once I installed the new version of IOGear's software that comes with this IOGear USB print server, it detected both network print servers. The drivers worked with the old Hawking stuff. Also added deskjet driver by using windows update for my Win7 machine while using the network monitor wizard and that process worked fine; though it is easier if you ensure the printer driver is loaded first, it is not necessary.
Then all is well.
I don't know what's wrong with this device. Didn't work. However, I am a cheapskate, so bought this on price. Tech support took a bunch of info from me then said check the driver and compatibility list. At the same price. This makes no sense, this is like saying check that your lightbulb is compatible with your extension cord. It is simply taking a signal over TCP/IP and translating it back into USB for use by the printer. Makes no sense to me, a 20 year networking guy who has installed numerous devices on networks.
I have an HP P1006, straightforward laser printer. Not listed, unknown to IOGear. Ended up getting the Netgear PS121 which worked right out of the box. Stupid me.
